Monster shark
Over the past several years, Megalodon sightings burst into our culture. People have been seeing immensely huge sharks. Megalodon did exist as a huge prehistoric shark.
We have the teeth (but not skeletons) as proof. But are these monstrous sea creatures still existing today? Or did they leave with the Mammoth and the T-Rex into prehistory?
A photograph has emerged. During WW2, a striking photo of an enormous shark with a German warship. Is this the proof we need? It went viral over the social media. But some people said they saw it before.
Was it a fake? Who would fake a war photo?
We have good old Discovery and Animal Planet to blame, up to the same game they pulled with the mermaid specials. They promised the public no more tricks, but the lure of high ratings was too much for them to resist.

But they tried to be clever and entered it into the extremely popular Shark Week. In 2013 one of the episodes labeled Megalodon-Monster Shark Lives. In 2014 they followed with Megalodon-New Evidence.
In 2013 the episode opened with four tourists happily taking their chartered boat out for a fishing trip in South Africa off the coast of Cape Town. Their boat was destroyed and the bodies of the four tourists were never recovered. But their camera and film were somehow found intact.
A marine biologist, Collin Drake followed the evidence and appeared in these specials to show the proof he and his team uncovered and what other people are trying to suppress to avoid a panic.
Then we saw the photo. An incredibly large shark was swimming alongside two German U boats.
But, if it is too good to be true, it usually is.
The photo was contested by George Monbiot of the Guardian. He found footage of the U boats in the Atlantic Ocean. He claimed a shark that huge would have created large bow waves.
The swastika was fake.
The shark was dubbed in and the photo was sepia toned to make it look aged.
Then the whole Shark Week fell apart. Viewers claimed it was more like Sharknado than a long running shark series.
Collin Drake was not a biologist or photographer. He is a South African actor named Darron Meyer who acted in action films such as “Deep State” and “Seal Team Eight”.
The identity of the four tourists were never found. The complete wreckage of the boat but the camera and evidence found undamaged puts this firmly into the “final photo” scenario.
Shark scientists were featured, and they claim they were edited to promote these false episodes. Jonathon Davis is a genuine shark researcher on Bull Sharks. They edited his comments for “Voodoo Sharks” about a huge phantom shark called the “Rooken” dwelling in the bayous of Louisiana. Kristine Stump from the Shedd Aquarium was edited for the episode “Monster Hammerhead.”
Then several reality shows went under investigation for fraud. Several events were staged or scripted for drama. The shows accused were Gold Rush, Man Vs. Wild, Naked and Afraid, Amish Mafia, Street Outlaws, and Alaska-Last Frontier.
In July 2015, Rich Ross was made President of Discovery. He promised no false documentaries or further attempts to mislead their viewers. So far, he has kept the promise. But it will take some time to restore the trust viewers once had in this once highly respected network.
As for Megalodon, there is no real proof he still exists today, no matter how many fossil teeth they show us. The monster sharks are out there but they are Great Whites, Basking sharks, Whale sharks and Megamouths.
